Who are Lincolnshire RAYNET
We are a group of licensed radio amateurs based in and around Lincolnshire and part of the national organization RAYNET-UK. Our mission is to provide voluntary communications within the terms of our radio licence, to served organizations, in accordance with our constitution which lays out the aims and governance of the group.
Who can we help
The primary aim of the organisation is to provide communications in times of emergency and disaster. The list of ‘User Services’ (i.e. people who we are allowed to pass messages for under the terms of the Amateur transmitting licence) who may call on our help include:
- Any ‘Public Utility’. This can include BT, Electricity distribution, Gas and Water suppliers etc.
- Any government department
- Any health authority
- Any UK Police force, Fire and Rescue service or Ambulance trust.
- British Red Cross
- HM Coastguard
- Local Authority Emergency Planning Officers
- Royal Voluntary Service
- St Andrew’s Ambulance Association
- St John Ambulance
- The Salvation Army
This support is achieved by providing a trained team of RAYNET members, together with a clearly identified set of resources at its disposal.
As well as planned events, RAYNET is available to the user services on short notice call-out, with teams mobilised typically within one hour. In many cases the use of RAYNET is written into the user services’ major incident plans, so that they may alert the organisation at an early stage.
If you think that all RAYNET members do is to sit around waiting for something to happen, you would be very wrong! To ensure that our approach to an incident is professional and that the members understand what is expected of them, the organisation is involved with many hundreds of events which, as well as providing help for the User Services (most often St. John Ambulance and Red Cross), provide a valuable training ground for our members.
During the summer months, many groups are out on events nearly every weekend. During the winter, there are regular training evenings to introduce, discuss and learn new skills.
One of the rewards members of the organisation get is a strong sense of providing worthwhile service to the community in return for the privilege of the transmitting licence, as RAYNET is the only really public face of Amateur radio.
RAYNET can offer:
- Established local contacts
- A national 24hr emergency contact telephone number (0141 621 2121)
- Additional flexible communication links to complement established systems.
- Members who come from a variety of backgrounds and can bring with them a wide range of skills, knowledge and expertise.
RAYNET is a communication service. It should not be regarded as extra marshalling help etc. The RAYNET insurance unfortunately does not cover members for carrying out tasks other than those related to setting up and operating communication networks.

on the 26th January 2025 at Market Rasen.
Our stand attracted a number of past members and members from adjoining groups and Norfolk and generated a number of interesting discussions.
The rally itself attracted a good number of visitors with plenty to see on the main floor.
The first opportunity to help the Endurance GB Equestrian groups in Lincolnshire started with a clear summers day for setup and degraded into a named storm for day 2. Despite the winds and the rain the rides managed to have a great weekend with almost no problems. Reports of missing riders were almost zero, one rider was not missing just a little late. Not only were we keeping track of the riders but also tracking their lost property as well. In total the team of seven handled over 340 radio messages, 50 messages via runners and recorded over 700 changes in riders location. The event concluded on the Sunday in glorious sunshine allowing the team to pack up dry tents.
